What a ‘Chatbot’ Actually Is (and Isn’t)
The word chatbot gets thrown around for two very different things, and knowing the difference will save you from a bad surprise.
The old kind: a simple script. You type something, it matches keywords, and it spits back a pre-written answer. Ask it something slightly off-script, and it breaks — gives you a useless answer or just loops back to ‘I don’t understand.’
The kind we build: powered by a real LLM underneath, so it actually understands what you’re asking, even if you phrase it a hundred different ways, and responds like it’s having a real conversation — because in a real sense, it is.
When you’re evaluating any chatbot — ours or anyone else’s — try asking it something a little unusual, a little off the beaten path. If it handles that gracefully, you’re dealing with the real thing. If it breaks or gives you a canned non-answer, you’re dealing with the old kind wearing a new coat of paint.
